Care: Slow-release evergreen plant food spike in spring
MAINTENANCE: Its roots prefer shade while its stems and flowers enjoy the sun. Benefit from a deep soaking once a week during hot, dry summer spells. Zones 3-5
FERTILIZER: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer like Miracle-Gro Shake & Feed ( 10-10-10 ratio) in early spring to support new growth.
PRUNING: Late winter or early spring (while dormant) or immediately after flowering finishes. Remove dead, damaged, or overcrowded stems to improve air circulation. If a plant becomes too leggy or overgrown, you can perform "renovation pruning" by cutting it back to about 2 feet above the ground to encourage fresh growth.
PROPIGATION: Layering is the easiest. In early summer, identify a low-growing, flexible vine, scrape a small portion of the stem on the underside, and bury that section in the soil, leaving the tip above ground. Secure the vine with a rock or brick to keep it in place. Once rooted (around late fall), cut the new plant from the parent and transplant.
